Migrant Care Worker Stories

PAWA has teamed up with the Roots Programme to record stories of people who have migrated to the UK. Many of PAWA’s members came to the UK from various countries in Africa on the Health and Care Worker visa and consequently face exploitation from their employers. This collaboration between PAWA and Roots will enable these peoples’ stories to be told by themselves in the context of coming from countries that have had their wealth extracted and are now invited to come to the UK to care for the vulnerable and elderly.

Participants are invited to have recorded conversations with Clare Richardson of the Roots Programme who grew up in trade union environment and has gone on to work in breaking down ‘othering’ through facilitating people to develop their own stories. The aim is to learn about the common and unique conditions of people who have migrated to the UK with a focus on care workers as told in their own words. Stories will be recorded anonymously and in confidence to protect individuals identity with prior informed consent and appropriate safeguarding and the consequent outputs will be open to be co-edited with participants.

If you have any questions or would be open to participating then please submit your interest in confidence below and Clare will be in contact shortly. If you have any further queries or worries about this project please contact PAWAs steering committee. Thank you.
