The newly elected Executive Committee (EC) of the Pan-African Workers’ Association met on the 11th of August 2024 for the first time in person. The meeting was held at the iconic Pelican House, home to Kanlungan, United Voices of the World (UVW), and the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, and many other radical organisations.
The EC reviewed its strategy and resolved to pilot the Activist Development Programme (ADP).
The aim of the ADP is to develop the skills of key activists across the UK. These activists may already feel confident addressing workplace issues on an individual level but could benefit from collective organising education and structured support.
The programme will provide training in key areas such as workers’ rights, the role of trade unions, workplace organising, introductory political education, and campaign management.
The ADP will have measurable goals and offer participants ongoing support and accountability. It will include regular meetings—two in person and eight shorter online sessions initially, followed by three in-person meetings and six online sessions. These sessions will focus on both training and addressing challenges that arise during organising efforts.
Additionally, the committee approved the creation of a membership database to gather information on where members work and live, improving targeted support.
